PBB Collab 3.0 First Dinner: The Housemate Stories You Didn’t See Coming

After the exhausting big coin task, this is the part of Day 2 of PBB Collab 3.0 that felt like watching a barkada at a handaan. No task, no pressure. Just kwentuhan, and that’s where details came out that you’d never get from the intro VTs.

The vet med student who failed, and why it was a “blessing in disguise”

First story (33:38): one housemate is already in fifth year of Veterinary Medicine. It’s a six-year course, but they had to repeat a year after failing one subject. “I’m not proud of it,” they admitted. But because of that, they started making content.

The captions don’t make it clear who it was, so I won’t guess. But I like the mindset. Not every setback is a dead end.

“Robbie, are you alright?”

While the girls were already bonding, the boys still seemed to be feeling each other out (34:00). One of them noticed that Robbie looked sad. Someone who knows him said that’s just how he is, quiet in workshops too, but a great host. Remember this detail, because later in the episode, it turns out there’s a reason he seemed so deep in thought.

Gehlee: three years in Korea without even being a K-pop fan

This was one of the most interesting ones for me (34:24). Gehlee, an international artist, left for Korea at around 15 or 16 because of an audition she thought was for acting. She was there for about three years and she’s 19 now. She couldn’t understand Korean at first, and the kicker: she isn’t even that big a fan of K-dramas or K-pop, just a casual listener.

So she studied Korean “kasi wala akong choice” (because I had no choice). Now she says she only knows “a little,” about the same level as her Tagalog. Then she even called Winwyn “Winwyn-unnie.” So cute.

Praying together

Before eating (35:28), they prayed first. They gave thanks for the food and for being together, and prayed they’d always be full until the show ends. A simple scene, but so Pinoy.

Robbie, the unexpected host of dinner

This is the part I liked. The quiet Robbie from earlier was the one taking care of everyone (35:52). “Who wants a steak?” “Eat a lot, guys.” He was also the one who mentioned that Lans‘s birthday was coming up, on the 30th. Advance happy birthday, Lans!

For me, this is the kind of housemate who gets stronger over time. Not loud, but you see it in what he does.

Cianne: the Madlang Babe who never made it to the grand finals

Cianne shared (36:16) that she’s been on It’s Showtime for four years, and her moniker “Madlang Babe” comes from the Sexy Babe segment. She joined the contest there, but two days before the grand finals, she tested positive for COVID. She couldn’t compete.

One housemate had a great reply: technically she still won, because she’s the one who’s still around. “I’m favored, I’ll say. Favored by God,” Cianne said. Winwyn, meanwhile, said hers is “Queen Mother.”

Mikee’s pamahiin (that turned into horror)

When it was time to clean up (37:06), Mikee took the lead. She brought up an old saying: if you clear the table while someone is still eating, you’ll never get married. Then someone added that, according to the elders, a person even changes form while doing that. “Why did it suddenly turn into horror?” I was laughing so hard here. Pinoy household humor talaga.

Meanwhile, Nathan and Nicole were looking for ways to help. And Anthony was already splitting up the chores: “I’ll take day one, and you take day two.” Organized.

What I noticed at dinner

If the task showed who leads, dinner showed who takes care of others. Robbie, Mikee, Winwyn. If my guess is right, they’ll be the “pillars” of the house in the first few weeks.

And if you noticed, there was a lot of “God” and “blessing” in tonight’s stories. Faith looks like it’ll be one of the common threads of this batch.

Whose story hit you the hardest? For me, Gehlee’s. It takes so much courage to move to another country that young.

Our analysis: dinner as a preview of the season

In many PBB seasons, the quiet scenes at the dinner table tell you who will become the “pillar” of the house. Not the tasks, not the nominations. Who offers food, who cleans up, who listens.

Three observations

  • Robbie, the host who doesn’t say much. “Who wants a steak?” is a small thing, but it’s the first time we saw him do something for others. Now that we know he’s Kuya’s first collaborator (read it here), it makes more sense: he’s observant.
  • Cianne, with a story of “almost.” Housemates with a story of loss before going in usually get viewers’ support. We love a redemption arc.
  • Gehlee, quiet courage. So young, alone in Korea. She’s not loud at the table, but her story is one of the most relatable for OFW families.

Prediction

Our guess: Winwyn, Mikee and Robbie will be the trusted “core” of the house in the first week. When nominations come, their risk will be low, because it’s hard to nominate someone who takes care of you.

Compared to other seasons

Every batch always has an “ate” and a “kuya” figure. This season, the ate role clearly looks like Winwyn’s, but the kuya role is still open. Will it be Robbie, or Raheel? We’ll keep watching.

Poll

*Who was the most caring at the first dinner?* For us, Robbie. How about you?
